How to get out of a rut?

Perfection is a myth we’re all taught to chase. Even the most polished, organized versions of ourselves eventually meet resistance — because life doesn’t follow mood boards or schedules. Falling into a rut isn’t a failure; it’s a very human pause. A moment of stillness where clarity hasn’t caught up yet. In this piece, I’m sharing mindset shifts that helped me realign, not as rules, but as gentle guidance. If they resonate with you, then this story has done its job.

1.PRODUCTIVITY DOES NOT DEFINE YOU

We are not just checkmarks on our own to-do lists. We are human beings — ones who feel, who love, who care. Our greatest wealth isn’t measured by productivity, but by memories: those made with friends and family, and the quiet, intimate moments we experience on our own. Success is beautiful, but in the end, you won’t remember whether you answered every email or cleaned the house that week. You’ll remember moments. Feelings. The life that happened in between.

2. ACCEPT YOURSELF

The only way to grow — and to step out of the cycle — is to accept yourself. To accept where you are, even when it isn’t perfect. To acknowledge that you feel low, that you’re constantly tired, and to understand that this, too, is okay. No matter how much we try to avoid days like these, they will always find us. Don’t see them as defeat, but as a quiet message from your body asking you to slow down. To pause. To listen

3. DO THINGS THAT RELAX YOU

The best way to truly unwind is to slow down — and to release the need for plans. Let yourself follow the moment instead of the schedule. If you feel like taking a walk, take the walk. If a rom-com feels right, press play. If you want to get lost in a book, read. If the day calls for coffee and shopping with a friend, say yes. Rest isn’t about doing nothingit’s about choosing what feels right, exactly when you need it.

4. LOCK YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA

Make protecting your peace a priority — starting with your social media. Every day we’re met with carefully curated images of perfect, productive lives. Naturally, we begin to compare. To question ourselves. To feel as though we’re falling behind. But no life is flawless — we only ever see what people choose to show. Truth is, you could make your life look just as perfect, too. So step away. Log out — at least for a while. You’ll gain time for yourself and release the pressure to become someone else. You’ll simply be you.

5. START EASY

Once you feel ready, begin by gently reintroducing structure — not all at once, but with intention. There’s no need to fit everything into a single day. Do what you can, at a pace that still leaves room to breathe, to enjoy, to feel present. Evenings should be reserved for slowing down: small rituals that signal rest — skincare, a book, soft music, quiet moments. Sleep isn’t optional; it’s essential. Try to shape your days so that errands are done by early evening, allowing yourself to fully unwind and be in bed by 10. A well-rested body creates space for clarity, balance, and ease

These are my five favorite ways to navigate a rut. Above all, don’t be afraid of your emotions — learn to welcome them. Every feeling has its place, and each one matters equally. Prioritize yourself. Protect your well-being. If this offered you even a small sense of comfort or clarity, then it has served its purpose.
