90s fashion – the iconic decade

There’s simply no denying it: the 1990s remain the most iconic decade in fashion history.  The foundations of today’s most beloved trends were already set back then. Slip dresses that skim the body, effortless mom jeans, plush faux-fur coats, and minimalist silhouettes defined an era that continues to shape the way we dress. Even capri pants, once forgotten, are quietly reclaiming their place in the spotlight.

NOT TRENDS - STATEMENTS

These looks weren’t just trends — they were statements, embodied by the ultimate style muses of the time. From the cool nonchalance of Kate Moss and the supermodel glamour of Naomi Campbell to Gwyneth Paltrow’s refined minimalism and Princess Diana’s timeless elegance, the decade was rich with fashion icons. Pop culture further cemented its legacy through the bold energy of the Spice Girls and unforgettable fictional fashion figures like Cher Horowitz from Clueless, Rachel Green from Friends, and Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City.

90s GRUNGE

The 1980s were all about expressing yourself and being bold. There were a lot of bright colors, crazy hairstyles, and shoulder pads. So, naturally, first came the 90s grunge. It's not something that I would wear, but I still think it's extremely stylish, and, sadly, it's not as appreciated as it should be. It was a different crazy from the 1980s crazy. There weren't bright colors or anything like that, but there were flannels, Doc Martens, ripped jeans, leopard print, messy hair, etc. We have Courtney Love with her iconic grunge outfits, and our popular Kate Moss with sheer materials and leather jackets. Gwen Stefani was also very in with her skirts and bandanas. Big fan of denim on denim, which was huge back then and huge now- best example of how 1990s fashion never left.

REAL REVOLUTION

Then came a real fashion revolution. Fashion was all about minimalism, simple silhouettes, and neutral colors. I enjoy monochromatic outfits, and I think they are the chicest, but also, on the other hand, we have a bit of sexiness - naked dresses and sheer materials. My favorite collection was the Ralph Lauren 1995 Fall/Winter Collection. It perfectly described what minimalism was all about. They used mostly black, grey, red, and somewhat brown colors. We also had checked patterns, beautiful layering with jackets, and of course, nice silhouettes. There was a pop of color with sparkly dresses.

As you can already see, I am in love with 90s fashion. I would like you to find your style inspiration in this iconic decade. Everything was iconic- from clothes to people wearing them. This style is absolutely chic and approved by diva.
